How we calculate
- Specs (CADR, room size, kWh/yr, ozone, technology, filters) come only from the ENERGY STAR Certified Room Air Cleaners V3.0 dataset via its public API, retrieved 2026-10-17. Every model page links its own record.
- Duplicate listings (same brand, model and CADR certified more than once, e.g. Coway/Airmega, Dreo/Dreo Home) are merged; all record IDs are shown.
- Room size: ENERGY STAR's figure (1.55 × smoke CADR) and AHAM's 2/3 rule (1.5 × smoke CADR, scaled by ceiling ÷ 8).
- Air changes per hour (estimate) = CADR × 60 ÷ (area × ceiling).
- Electricity cost (estimate) = ENERGY STAR annual kWh × residential rate (EIA, July 2026 (preliminary)). ENERGY STAR's annual kWh assumes 5,840 active hours/year (16 h/day) per the DOE test procedure.
What we don't cover (data gaps)
- Purchase and filter prices, noise, and gas/odor performance are not in ENERGY STAR data, so we don't rank on them.
- Many listings use model numbers only; we don't guess marketing names.
- Non-ENERGY STAR models are not included.
We do not test products, accept free products, or publish reviews or star ratings.
